Obituary For Stafford Opry Cox
October 2, 1925 - December 25, 2021


Stafford Opry Cox, 96, of Eden, passed away on Saturday, December 25th, 2021.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 13th at 1:00pm Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mr. Cox will lie in state Wednesday 1 pm to 5 pm at Fair Funeral Home.  

Stafford was born in Rockingham County, NC on October 02, 1925 to parents Daniel Cox and Helen Willis Cox.  He was born on a farm and enjoyed working it as he grew up there.  He attended Draper Elementary and graduated from Draper High School.

Stafford was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Cox and Helen Willis Cox along with his brother William Cox.  In addition, he was preceded in death by his son, Malcolm Stafford Cox. 

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rose Genevieve Shelton Cox, daughter Genny Cox Ziglar (Vann), grandsons Nathan Harris Ziglar, Stephen Vann Ziglar (Kristine), Matthew Cox (Christina), Denise Bullins, great grandchildren Michael Bullins, Marvin Bullins, Matthew Cox, Jr., and Izabelle Marks.

After graduation he worked in a local drugstore for a short time.  He then began working at Dan River Mills in Danville, Va.  He quickly became a skilled loom fixer and thus began his career that spanned many decades.  Stafford enjoyed the physical labor and continued to work there until his retirement. 

Upon retiring, Stafford turned his attention toward his hobby of working with gumball machines and scales.  He enjoyed piddling in his workshop and growing huge gardens during the summer.

Stafford was a very supportive grandfather and never missed a ballgame where his grandkids were playing.  He was talented artistically and enjoyed volunteering at his grandsons’ classrooms and making kites and wooden toys to share with the children.
