Obituary For William "Bill" Douglas Moody

William “Bill” Douglas Moody, 76, of Eden, NC, passed away at his home on Monday, May 8, 2023.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2pm, Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Osborne Baptist Church in Eden. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at Osborne Baptist Church.

Bill was born April 4, 1947, in New Bern, NC, to Douglas Lynn Moody and Myrtle Christine Daugherty Moody. Bill graduated from Lake Worth High School, class of 1965, in Lake Worth, Florida. Following graduation, he joined the Marine Corps, training in Paris Island, SC, serving until April 4, 1971. On May 27, 1967, Bill married Mary Elizabeth May, in Durham, NC. He joined IBEW#323 in West Palm Beach, FL, and graduated from apprenticeship training and became an inside electrical wireman. He worked throughout Palm Beach County and across the country on condos and power plants as a wireman, welder and teacher in the apprenticeship program. Later, he and Mary owned and operated Ye Olde Lollipop Shoppe for over 5 years. Bill also worked for Lake Worth Utilities as a Systems Operator, buying and selling power for the city for 18 years. He retired in April, 2003, when he and Mary moved to Eden and enjoyed 20 years of retirement. They became members of Osborne Baptist Church and he worked in numerous ministries. He was known as Santa Bill to many children in the county and also special needs kids in Forsythe County.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary May Moody; daughter, Michelle Lynn Bigham (Todd) of Cary, NC; son, Chad Errol Moody (Jennette) of Jacksonville, FL; grandson, Hank Moody and granddaughter, Becca Moody of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Joseph Clifton Moody (Carolyn) of Havelock, NC; sister, Deborah Lynn Willhoit (Bob) of New Bern, NC; sister-in-law, Judy May Snyder of Cedar Grove, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, Douglas Lynn Moody; mother, Christine Daugherty Moody Cooke; step-father, Major Cooke.
