Virginia Alice Ward Hurd, 97, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at Gibson House (Rockingham Co. Hospice). 

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 7th at 2:00pm at the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Eden.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Dan View Cemetery. 

Virginia was born February, 20, 1924 in Guilford Co.  to the late Sam Ward and Mary Warf Ward. She graduated from Leaksville High School in 1940 and went on to Gassaway Business School. Virginia was employed by Marshall Fields that later became Fieldcrest Mills and worked in the Accounting Department. Mrs. Ward was a lifetime member of Morehead Memorial Hospital Volunteers and served as a Board Member of the Auxiliary.  She also was a member of the Spray Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, Fieldcrest Credit Union Board Member and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Vestry.     

She is survived by her two sons, Michael C. Hurd (Jennifer) of Stoneville and Stephen J. Hurd (Tandy) of Orange Beach, AL.; grandchildren, Tyler Hurd (Lindsay) and Trevor Hurd (Kristen) both of Atlanta, GA. 

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Hurd; brothers, Albert Ward and Ernest Ward. 

In lieu of flowers the family ask for contributions to be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 600 Morgan Road, Eden, NC., 27288 or Hospice of Rockingham County 2150 NC-65, Reidsville, NC  27320.
