Doris Jean Adkins, 81, of Eden, passed away May 29th at Hospice of Rockingham County (Gibson House).
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at OverlookCemetery, 865 Bryant Street, Eden, NC. A gathering and fellowship will follow immediately after the service at The Morehead - Fair House, 420 Boone Road, Eden, NC next to Fair Funeral Home.
Doris was born July 23, 1940 to the late Otis Dewey Adkins and Mary Oakley Adkins in RockinghamCounty. She was a 1958 graduate of MoreheadHigh School. Doris was an avid Bluegrass fan, an antiquer and a photographer. She worked as a chief x-ray technician for 39 years at AnniePennHospital. Doris also attended the Danville Nursing School in Danville, VA.
Left to cherish her memory is her aunt, Betty Jean Oakley; cousin, Cynthia Oakley - Finella (John) and her beloved dog, Sugar all of Statesboro, GA.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Dewey Adkins.

Jean, I still miss & Love you bunches !!! To all the family especially Cindy & John & her aunt , I am so sorry for such a great loss to each one of you . I had known Jean for approx. 43 years . She had a heart big as all out doors , loving , caring , a forever friend , always made you feel at home & you always felt welcome at her home . I wish the world had more of people like Jean. I first knew Jean when I was a candy striper at Annie Penn in the radiology department. I later went to school and began my career in Radiology at Annie Penn in 1981. I really enjoyed my years there and the leadership of Jean. All that worked with Jean will have many treasured memories to cherish. I am so sorry. My family ( the late Harry Smith family) dearly loved she and her Mom "Miss Mary" I recently visited with Jean and borrowed a stone to prop flowers at the cemetery near her house. I was so shocked to hear of her death. We all loved her so much. A very smart girl!!!!!
