Joy Harter Outland, 95, of Eden, passed Saturday, June 4, 2022 at UNC Rockingham Health and Rehab Center.

A graveside service will be held 11am Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Overlook Cemetery in Eden. A visitation will be held 10-10:45am Tuesday, June 7, 2022, prior to the service, at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.

Joy was born January 23, 1927, in Rockingham County, NC, to the late John Garver Harter and Nellie Cox Harter. After graduating high school, Joy worked as an office clerk in the blanket warehouse of Fieldcrest Mills until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Eden.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Louis “Everette” Outland, Jr. of Mathews, VA, Michael Harter Outland of Owensboro, KY; one grandchild; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Joy is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Outland; brother, Kenneth Harter; sisters, Ozelle Francis and Wilda Harry.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in her name to First Presbyterian Church, 582 Southwood Dr, Eden, NC 27288.

Everette & Mike - very sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.  I still have fond memories of her from the short time we lived across the street from you on Harris St.  I just got word last night from brother Neill so will be unable to make it down from the northern Shenandoah Valley.  You guys and family are in my thoughts & prayers.
