Robert Lee Martin, Jr. age 92 of Eden, passed away on Saturday, July 16th 2022 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20th 2022 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery with full Military Honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m.

Junior was born April 23, 1930 in South Boston, Va. to the late Robert Lee Martin, Sr. and Annie Bateman Martin. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Spray Baptist Church. Junior enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading and walking. He enjoyed being with family and especially his grandchildren. He retired from Duke Power Company.

Surviving are wife, Hilda Hawkins Martin of the home; daughter, Terri Martin; son Robert Lee Martin, III and wife Cindy, all of Eden; grandchildren, Brittany Pratt and husband Clay, Nick Edwards and Cooper Martin; great grandchildren, Thomas and Sawyer Pratt; sister, Mildred M. “Boodie” Cochran.

The family will be meeting at the home of his daughter, 521 Bermuda Dr. Eden, NC

I was saddened to learn of the loss of Mr. Martin. Many fond memories remain of the time I spent with the Martin family in my youth. While fishing and golfing come to mind it was the time he spent playing baseball with Robert and I that stand out the most. He spent hour upon hour pitching batting practice, hitting ground balls (and pop flies) and teaching us the game. I cherish every moment of that time and am forever grateful. I know he'll be missed. My family's thoughts and prayers are with the Martin family. God bless you 'Junior.'
