Nancy Carol Ligon Griffith, 80, of Petersburg, VA, formerly of Eden, NC, passed away Monday, November 28, 2022 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, VA.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, December 5, 2022 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 9983 NC-700, Pelham, NC 27311. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at the church.

Nancy was born in Danville, VA to the late John T. Ligon and Helen J. Cassidy. She was raised by her loving grandmother Sudie J. Reynolds Shackelford.

Nancy is survived by her loving and dedicated daughter Carol E. Hutson and son-in-law Robert L. Hutson; her sister Glenda Beckler; and her ex-husband and best friend Marland D. Griffith.

When Nancy was in her 40’s she went back to school at RCC and got her high school diploma. When she was in her 60’s she again went back to college studying computer programming. There she was on the dean’s list and would have graduated with honors, but she had a stroke one month before graduation and was unable to complete the course.

Nancy was a loving, caring mother and friend that would write and preform skits just to make people happy. She was a Christian who truly loved God and followed the Bible. Nancy loved doing crafts such as painting, making small wooden projects and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress, making pillows, stuffed animals and wedding clothes. Nancy loved gardening, planting flowers and vegetables, loved the outdoors, and loved animals. She was mostly vegetarian for the past 19 years. She also loved working puzzles, drawing and coloring.

Nancy worked several jobs in textile mills, but she worked mostly as a CNA, because she wanted to help people. She was one of the CNA’s that would talk in a cute sweet voice to help the people smile and cheer them up.

Nancy will be greatly missed, as there is now a large empty hole in our hearts and lives.
I love you mom, forever. I will miss you until we meet again.

Marland I'm so sorry to hear about your wife and friend. I know how dedicated you were to her. Although I never met her I can tell from her sweet obituary how loving and kind she was.
