Gracie Mae Freeman Kasten, age 85, of Eden, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023 at UNC Rockingham Hospital. Family will receive friends Thursday from 1 pm to 1:45 pm at Fair Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 2 pm at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville. After the graveside service, family will be meeting at the home of Wendell and Dorothy Evans, 132 Wilson St., Eden. All are invited. Gracie was born February 8, 1937 in Spray, NC, to the late John Robert and Susie Rieson Freeman. She worked in the front office at Fieldcrest Mills for 37 years. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Edward Kasten; one grandson, Joshua Taylor Kasten; special nephew and niece, Tommy Hankins and Laranda Hankins Joyce; other nieces, Selisa Hodges, Angela Purgason and Paula Burgess; also survived by numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Roy Joseph Kasten; two grandsons, Kameron Scott Kasten and Robert Edward Kasten; one sister, Caroline Gover and one brother, John Robert Freeman.
