Melvin Clarence Law, 79 of Greensboro, NC passed away March 11, 2023 at Wesley Long Hospital.
There will be no services at this time.
Born October 16, 1943 in Draper, NC to the late Clarence Minter Law and Alyne Denny Law.  His brothers, Rev. Joe A. Law, Donald W. Law, and sister, Linda Evans, preceded him in death. Melvin is survived by his wife Jean Johnson Law, a son William Ray Law and wife Anne of Lakewood, CA and three grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt and Rylee and several nephews and a niece.  He is also survived by brothers-in-law Billy Johnson and wife, Doris, and Wayne Johnson and wife, Jo of Eden, NC. Melvin worked in computer technology all his life with his last work as Vice President of Business Affairs at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC. Melvin loved fishing, golf, the mountains and being outside and working with The Boy Scouts of America.  He worked devotedly with the scouts for over 30 years.  He first was a scoutmaster for Troop 501, Spruce Pine, NC. Melvin soon became involved with training the leaders and worked closely with Wood Badge for many years as well as with the Commissioner College for Scouters.  He went to Philmont Scout Ranch in NM for training and later became a trainer himself.  In 1983 he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Daniel Boone Council of Western North Carolina. Melvin was a member of Spruce Pine United Methodist Church who sponsored his scout troop and supported him wholeheartedly. He and his wife, Jean, worked side by side for almost 60 years taking the scouts on adventures like spelunking or just doing projects around the house. Melvin had a keen sense of humor and was a great role model for boys and adults alike.  He will be missed greatly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
I just realized that Melvin was my cousin....I never met him. He looks a lot like his Dad.
Clarence and my Mom Daisy Law Newman were brother and sister.
So sorry for your loss. Sending Love Hugs and Prayers to the family!!

So very sorry for your loss.  Prayers for the family.  I was next door neighbor to Melvin growing up.  We were roommates for a bit when we both were in Raleigh in school. He told me about a job at the computer center at NCSU where he worked after finishing school. Melvin left for the mountains before I arrived at State.  Sounds like he lived a wonderful and productive life. God Bless.
