Frederick Dunham McFalls, 93, passed away Friday, March 17th at his residence in Eden, NC.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Friday, March 24, 2023 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. Military Honors will be given on the front lawn. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.

Frederick was born January 8, 1930, in Gastonia, NC, to the late Oliver Wendell McFalls and Cleo Cauble McFalls. His education, service, and career were as follows:

From 1947-1951 At Bachelor of Music (Violin) Rollins College, Winter Park, FL. 

From 1951-1952 At Pre-Medical Courses, UNC, Chapel Hill, NC 

From 1952-1954 At Service in US Army, Medical Corp., Duty in Korea 

From 1954-1959 At Doctor of Medicine, Duke University, Durham, NC 

From 1959-1960 At Internship (Rotating) Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, NC 

From 1960- 1962 At Instructor of Professor of Anatomy, Duke University, Durham, NC 

From 1962-1964 At Associate Professor of Anatomy, Duke University 

From 1964-1968 At Assistant Professor of Anatomy, Duke University 

From 1968- 1972 At Head of Medical Development, Carolina Biological Supply, Burlington, NC 

From 1972-1977 At Freelance Artist, Potter, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada 

From 1977-1980 At Psychiatry Residency, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL 

From 1979-1980 At Chief Resident, Psychiatry, University of South Florida, Fl 

From 1979-1995 At Private Practice, Psychiatry, Tampa, FL 

From 1980- 1990 At Clinical Professor of Psychaitry, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL 

From 1995- 2000 At Staff Psychaiatrist, Mental Health Care, Inc., Tampa, FL 

Mental Health Care, Inc., is an organization of Hillsborough County for outpatient treatment of indigent patients. During this time, he was in charge of the Prolixin and Clozaril and supervised two Nurse Practitioners. One day a week he saw patients at a residential Drug Treatment Branch with a Dual Diagnosis of Substance Abuse and a Psychiatric Diagnosis. The remainder of his time was spent evaluating and prescribing medication for numerous Psychiatric Disorders.   

Survived by his brother, Samuel McFalls; his loving Wife, Yvonne McFalls; his two sons, Hunter and Freddy McFalls; his Daughter Anne Pontin; and his two Grandchildren, Campbell and Kessler Pontin.

Our deepest sympathies on the passing of Fred.  Sam and Anne always kept us informed as to what he was doing and where he was.  We met him at Mer's dinner when we lived in Greensboro.   He was certainly a talented, smart man and this world is going to miss him.
