Shirley Elizabeth Daugherty Reid, 92, of Eden passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, at her home.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11am Monday, May 8, 2023 at Church of the Epiphany Columbarium, 538 Henry St, Eden.

Shirley was born October 9, 1930, in Orlando, FL, to the late William Willard Daugherty and Augusta Louise Byars Daugherty. She was a member of Church of the Epiphany in Eden. Shirley volunteered for many years at Hospice of Rockingham County.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melanie Sweezy of Eden; son, Michael Goldman of Eden; brother, George Daugherty, Sr. of Groveland, FL; sister, Carol Wentworth of Holly Pond, AL; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Henry James “Jim” Reid; daughter, Melinda Pittman; sons, Mark Goldman, Marvin Goldman; sisters, June Small, Marilyn Goldman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

Dearest Mel and Michael, 

What a special person your mother is! She welcomed me with open arms when I visited and made me feel comforted and like a part of the family.  She even gave me her recipe for her famous carrot cake which is enjoyed by us whenever I make it! So very yummy! Know our prayers are with you during this time. May God hold you and her family in His Holy Arms as you say farewell.  I will always treasure knowing her.
