Paul Ray Evans, Jr., 90 years young, went home to be with the Lord and his loved ones on June 7, 2023 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Spray Baptist Church, Eden, NC, with burial to follow at El Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Eden, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2pm, at Spray Baptist Church.
Paul, who went by Junior, was a contractor by trade. He studied under his father, Paul, Sr., and eventually took over Evans Construction Company until his retirement. He built many beautiful homes and businesses in the area. He also worked for It’s Fun Time installing gazebos and park shelters in city parks of various towns in North and South Carolina.
Junior was a member and served Spray Baptist Church for many years as a trustee and oversaw repair projects for the church until a few years ago. His love of golf played a big part in organizing many golf trips for some of the members of Lynrock Golf Club. In his later years, he found a new hobby of puzzling. It gave him such comfort after losing his precious wife, Gaye, of 68 years.
Of all his accomplishments, his greatest love was his family and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Left to share his memories are his daughters, Terri Evans of Eden, NC, Pat Hendrix (Houston) of Wrightsville Beach, NC; his brother, Buddy Evans (Angela) of Ruffin, NC; His sisters-in-law, Shelby Evans of Mount Airy, NC, and Deloise Evans of Eden, NC; numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gaye Shreve Evans; his parents, Paul Ray Evans, Sr., and Nellie Jeffries Evans; his sisters, Marion Freeman (Owen), Lorene Boyd (Howard), Shirley Joyce (Wayne); brothers, Melvin Evans and Ronnie Evans.
A special Thank You to Hospice of Rockingham County nurses and staff and Dr. Terry Daniel for supporting us in giving our Daddy a special sense of peace and love in his final days. We are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Spray Baptist Church, 745 Church St, Eden, NC 27288, or Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
