Joseph Edwin “Pete” Slaydon, Jr., 87, of Eden passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held 11am, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Slaydon Family Cemetery on Slaydon Rd in Eden. Visitation will be held Monday, September 4, 2023 from 5-7pm at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.
Pete was born September 12, 1935, in Rockingham County, NC, to the late Joseph “Mike” Slaydon and Pearl Jones Slaydon. Pete was a member of Lively Stone Baptist Church in Pelham, NC, where he served as Trustee. He worked in maintenance for York Oil Company until retirement. He was also a self-employed landscaper in Newport News, VA. Pete volunteered at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden. He was a member of Chapter W Gold Wing Motorcycle Club in Eden, an honorary member of Chapter C and O Gold Wing Club in Newport News, and a member of the Gold Wing Association.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Ann Lay Slaydon of the home; sons, Michael Dean Slaydon (Claudia), Roger Lee Slaydon (Becky), Tony Curtis Slaydon (Sara), and Joseph Eugene Slaydon (Bonnie), all of Newport News, VA; daughter, Wanda Diane Miller of Eden, NC; grandchildren, Wayne and Lauren Slaydon (Maggie), Christopher and Kimberly Slaydon (Hunter, Patrick, Megan), Ashley Slaydon, Justin and Morgan Slaydon (Oakley), Jason and Molly Slaydon (AJ, Tina, Campbell), Brian Slaydon, Joe and Danielle Slaydon (Andrew, Oliver, August, Sophia), Joseph Askew, Brandon and Chelsie Miller (Eli, Luna, Zane), Stephanie Light, Jodi and Chris Gagalardi (Ziva, Murphy), Crystal and David McIntyre (Destiny, Thomas); brother, Robert Lee Slaydon; sister, Florine Hammock of Eden, NC; friends, Joe and Diane Crowder, Jeff and Jeanette Wright, Ed and Linda Travis, his church family and friends and Lively Stone Baptist Church; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his sister, Rivers Prewette; grandchild, Jerry Askew.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and Lively Stone Baptist Church Building Fund, 2347 Chandler Mill Rd, Pelham, NC 27311.

Tom LayContinued prayer for Pete's family and friends. We lived across the street for years from Pete and his family. Pete would always come over with something he had grown or if something didn't look right he come check on things and he would chat with my daddy Bubba Travis. He was such a sweet man.
